Qualifying Life Events

We know that life happens — and sometimes it brings big changes. When those changes affect your family or insurance needs, you may be able to update your benefits outside of the annual Open Enrollment period. This is called a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

You’ll have 30 days from the date of the event to make your changes, so be sure to act quickly to keep your coverage up to date.

What Counts as a Life Event?

Some common examples include:

  • Getting married or divorced
  • Welcoming a new child through birth, adoption, or placement for adoption
  • Losing other health coverage (for you or a dependent)

Your benefit changes must match the type of event that occurred. For example, if you have a baby, you can add your child to your plan — but you can’t drop coverage for another dependent at that time.

You can find more details and examples in ADP Workforce Now.

How Do I Report a Life Event?

  1. Log in to ADP Workforce Now (online or through the mobile app).
  2. Go to Myself > Benefits > Enrollments > Qualifying Life Events.
  3. Choose the event that matches your situation and follow the step-by-step instructions.

Please upload proof of your life event before submitting your request.

    • If you’re adding a dependent, make sure to include the required verification documents (like a birth certificate or marriage license).

Heads up: The “event date” should reflect the day your coverage was gained or lost (for example, your wedding date or your child’s birth date).

Remember — you have 30 days to report your change to the Benefits Team to make sure your coverage updates smoothly.
